Dennis Okike wins Gulder Ultimate Search 10

Featured

Dennis Okike has emerged the 10th Ultimate Champion! He outsmarted Dr. Edmund Umeabuani and Ifunanya Onike in the waters of Usaka River, where the final battle among the warriors fervently seeking for the 10th symbol took place.

On the final day of the search, the warriors got a message from the Council of Elders ordering them to pack their bags and make their ways to where they usually draw water. Chidi was waiting for them and gave them the next set of instructions.

The final task was to search for The 10th Symbol.

To do that, each of them would make use of a clue which would take them to two different locations to retrieve two pieces of the map that would lead to where The 10th Symbol was buried. It was a race against time and the last man to return to the next location after was evicted.

Edmund and Ifunanya’s first clues led them to the Place of the Talking Drum to retrieve the first map piece; while Bobby and Dennis went to the Mud Field. Subsequently, Bobby and Dennis headed to the Place of the Talking Drumfor their second piece while Edmund and Ifunanya raced to the Mud Field. Edmund returned first, followed by Ifunanya. Dennis edged Bobby out of the quest when he beat him to the finishing line. Bobby was instantly evicted.

With their maps pieced together, the remaining warriors had all they needed to proceed to find the Sceptre. On their maps three spots were marked ‘X’ as possible places where The 10th Symbol was buried. Ifunanya was in the lead, having figured out the direction first. However her first attempt at crossing the river with the aid of a rope saw her falling into the water while Edmund and Dennis moved on.

Edmund arrived first and headed straight to one of the spots marked on the map and began his search. Dennis joined shortly. Ifunanya had barely stepped in the river when Dennis raised what turned out to be a false alarm. All he had was a piece of debris laying under the river. The protracted search had the warriors glancing at their maps intermittently as Dennis kept digging up dirt after dirt from the river.

After many futile efforts Dennis eventually dug up the Sceptre from under a slanted palm tree in the river, and thereby ended the long search for The 10th Symbol.

He was instantly inducted into The Order of Heroes as the 10th Ultimate Man by the Anchor-man, Chidi Mokeme.

They last night received:
DENNIS = 10 Million + Mitsubishi Pajero Jeep
IFUNANYA = 2,750,000 + 1,000,000 (last woman standing)
EDMUND = 2,750,000

Hon Patrick Obahiagbon “I’ve Spent An Hour Daily Reading Dictionaries In The Last 20 Years”

Featured

Read Hilarious interview grammarian and current Chief of Staff to the Edo State Governor, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon granted to The Punch.
see below;

Why do you always speak ‘big grammar’?
I am not really consensus ad idem with those who opine that my idiolect is advertently obfuscative. No no no, it’s just that I am in my elements when the colloquy has to do with the pax nigeriana of our dreams and one necessarily needs to fulminate against the alcibiadian modus vivendi of our prebendal political class.
How did you start speaking in this manner?
It all happened when my father brought me a teaser which stated that good orators had ruled the world and you must have to be a feisty orator if you must rule the world. As an impressionable young man, I alacritously threw myself into the whirligig of improving my usage of words by amassing new words on a daily basis.

How do you talk to your wife, children and even your friends?
I relate with my family and friends very warmly and in an atmosphere of camaraderie, stripped of my confutational habiliment and gladiatorial homilies. I am a very peaceful, calm, level-headed and celestially attuned soul personality.

Is this the way you proposed to your wife, speaking high tech grammar?
Of course, the business of the day when I interfaced with my wife on matters of the heart had to be in plain Caeser’s language and you can decipher why that had to be so. The matter in view did not permit itself of sphinxian conundrum.
It’s a long time ago, so I can’t remember the exact words I used. We had a relationship for ten years before we got married. We’re looking at close to 20 years ago.

Did you write exams in school in these big words?
I used such words very-very freely in my exams both at the secondary school and in my university and little wonder I had the misfortune of my English results being seized intermittently in my O’ Levels. WAEC released my results for the other subjects and withheld my English result. This happened for about three years. Twice, I passed the University Matriculation Examination but I could not proceed to the University because of my English results that were not released. At the end of the day, it was released after the third attempt.

How many dictionaries do you read a day and how often do you read dictionaries?
I have read and still do read a vaudeville of dictionaries from Websters to Funk and Wagnalls, from Cambridge to Oxford dictionaries, from Black’s Law Dictionary to Encarta and from Encyclopedia Britannica to Foreignisms, etcetera. I developed my corpus of vocabulary by reading omnivorously. I have also spent nothing less than an hour daily on my dictionary for over twenty years. So, whereas the dictionary for most people is a mere occasional reference point, it is for, me a vade-mecum. It may also interest you to know that there is much to learn from our daily newspapers.

Was English your best subject?
My best subject in secondary school was government and religion and am sure that I was drawn to religion because, I now know as a student of Rosicrucian mysticism, that I was a student of divine light in my last incarnation. As for government, I just fell in love with the subject due to my early attraction in life to issues of political-economy.

So what did you score in English language?
English language was of course my hobbyhorse and passion but like I earlier asseverated, my results were constantly guillotined to my utter chagrin that I had to lapse into a jeremiad of lachrymoseim for a period of aeon. I would need to check the result again to be sure of my score.

Do you pray the same way you speak?
God understands all languages, my brother and I pray to God using any word that pops up. May I posit that the key points in prayers are your sincerity, purity of heart, walking within the compass and to what extent are you ready and worthy of receiving the benediction of the cosmic and the cosmic masters because as we say in mysticism- “when the students are ready, the masters would appear.”
Take my words my brother that more than seventy per cent of humanity don’t know how to pray but that is a matter for another day.

Do you know that many people don’t take you too seriously when you talk because they think you are not communicating ?
Why will I be perturbed from ensconcing myself in the palatable arms of Morpheus because people have deprived themselves of the cultivation of the regime of the mental magnitude? I read all the farrago of baloneys and vacuous bunkum from pepper soup objurgators. The spirit of animadversion remains their fundamental human right. It also remains an indubitable fact that I get millions and millions of requests daily from people all over the world requesting for my verbal mentorship which positive cosmopolitan reactions have assisted my equipoise and righteous sense of pachydermatous garb. I cannot put my nose to the grindstone daily and expect to be understood by those luxuriating in a modus vivendi, verging on pepper souping, goat heading, suyaing, big stouting and isiewulising. Has a philosophical wag not once pontificated that things of the spirit are spiritually discerned and that it takes the deep to call the deep? We will speak more on this matter of critiques and chichi dodo another day.

Why do you pull your trousers up beyond the waist?
Hahahaha….That trousers style is called Yohji Yamamoto. It was my own audacious statement to remonstrate against the pervasive tendency of Nigerians especially our youths that took to the practice of putting on trousers exposing their lower anatomical contours and I will do it over and over again.

Principles That Made Dangote The Richest Black Man On Earth

Featured

As we approach the middle of the year, leaders, entrepreneurs and business owners are looking for new and innovative ways to grow their brands.
Who is better to turn to than one of the business leaders of our time —Dangote Group CEO Aliko Dangote.

The principles that made him include;
Principle One: Manufacture; don’t just trade
Aliko Dangote started business as a trader of
commodities; he gathered business confidence and experience as he grew. In an interview granted, he openly admits that one of his greatest business moves was moving from being a trader to being a manufacturer. He summed it up by saying,
“Manufacture, don’t just trade. There is money in manufacturing even though it is capital intensive. To achieve a big breakthrough, I had to start manufacturing the same product I was trading on; which is commodities.”

Principle Two: Build a brand, and don’t destroy it
Aliko Dangote is one of the firm believers of the “Brand Power” and this is what he has to say about it:
“To succeed in business, you must build a brand and never destroy it. One competitive advantage I had when I ventured into manufacturing was my brand “Dangote,” which I diligently built in the course of my trading commodities.”

Principle Three: Start small but dream big
“I built a conglomerate and emerged the richest black man in the world in 2008 but it didn’t happen overnight. It took me thirty years to get to where I am today. Youths of today aspire to be like me but they want to achieve it overnight. It’s not going to work. To build a successful business, you must start small and dream big. In the journey of entrepreneurship, tenacity of purpose is supreme.”– Aliko Dangote

Principle Four: Have connections and pray for a big break
Aliko Dangote is respected for his strong network of business and political connections. You can build your connections and strengthen your network in the business world by increasing your corporate social responsibility, signing joint ventures and partnership deals, forming strategic alliances, attending business events and parties, making political donations and paying courtesy visits to those at the helm of affairs. To survive in business, you must strengthen your business connections and network. And most importantly, you must pray for a big break. Big breaks are very vital to entrepreneurial survival. In fact, I can hardly point to any successful. entrepreneur that wasn’t thrust upwards by a big breakthrough.

Principle Five: Believe there is money to be made in your country
Dangote believes one of the main prerequisite to building a successful business and ultimately becoming rich is developing a firm belief in your country. Dangote is a firm believer in his country Nigeria. He believes opportunities abound everywhere but it just takes a smart eye to see them. He encourages everyone to seek opportunities in their own country instead of
seeking greener pastures in other countries.

Principle Six: All work and less play makes Jack a rich man
“I enjoy myself a lot but I derive more joy in
working. I believe in hard work and one of my
business success secrets is hard work. It’s hard to see a youth that will go to bed by 2am and wake up by 5am. I don’t rest until I achieve something.” – Aliko Dangote

Principle Seven: Constant Learning
Aliko Dangote has already emphasized the
importance of learning new things, he is an avid reader who consumes books everyday, to be successful you must have the attitude of always learning and trying new things, you can’t stay in your comfort zone and expect to succeed

Nigeria Sets World Record In Tooth-Brushing

Featured

Nigeria’s Lagos State has shattered the Guinness Book of World Record in tooth brushing previously set by India by getting 300,000 students from 600 public secondary schools in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria to brush their teeth simultaneously at different locations.

In 2007, 117,000 students in India brushed their teeth simultaneously for one minute at different locations, thus entering the Guinness Book of World Record, a record that has lasted for six years.

In Lagos the students achieved this feat by brushing their teeth simultaneously for one minute across 326 multiple locations across Lagos State, with the main location being Teslim Balogun Stadium where thousands of students undertook the exercise.

At exactly, 2.15 pm on Thursday, Project Head of HEIT Solutions, Dr. Lawal Bakare, convener of the Tooth brushing Challenge Project, signaled on the students to begin brushing their teeth and called on them to stop at 2.16 pm.

Unilever Nigeria Limited, one of the sponsors of the event provided the tooth brush and toothpaste used in the challenge, while the Lagos State Government partnered with HEIT Solution to undertake the tooth brushing challenge.

Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina commended the students for being part of the feat, describing it as historic for their generation, saying that there was need for them to pay more attention to their oral health, as doing so, would impact on their general well being and ensure they lived long.

According to her, the government explored the tooth brushing challenge as a means to build positive oral health behaviours among young people and use them to influence change in older people, while restating government`s commitment to the provision of affordable dental care, as a good number of health facilities had been equipped to demonstrate that commitment.

He said the new record is subject to verification by officials of the Guinness Book of Records after the report from all the locations is collated, upon which certificate will be presented as the official World Record holders.

Convener of the tooth brushing challenge, Bakare explained that school children were chosen for the project because they were still at a stage when they could embrace new behaviours and attitudes.

“You are the essence of this challenge, we gathered here because we believe that you are supposed to have better oral health. Most of you do not know that when you don’t have your teeth, you would not grow as you ought to, so we are trying to make you remember three things; brush twice a day, brush using the appropriate technique and visit the dentist regularly,’ he stated.

According to the Brand Manager, Unilever (Close Up), Mr. Kester Abiola, less than 50 percent of Nigerians brush their teeth twice a day as that was not good enough, adding that 17 percent of the population had toothaches due to improper and irregular tooth brushing, which he said, could be corrected with good oral hygiene.

“Unilever has supported oral health in Nigeria for over eight decades; its Close-Up brand was produced to meet the oral health needs of Nigerians. Unilever is 90 years old and over the years, we have continued to come up with products to ensure oral health of citizens, especially children. Close Up tooth paste is a family brand anytime any day and we are proud to be part of history making,” he said. [PM NEWS]

JAMB Releases 2013 UTME Results

Featured

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the 2013 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.

The board, however, withheld 12,110 results for possible disciplinary action.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, announced this at a news conference on the release of the results in Bwari, FCT, on Friday.

The registrar said after thorough processing of answer scripts of the candidates who sat for the examination, the board discovered some forms of malpractice perpetuated during the conduct of the examination.

“However, the results of 68,309 candidates from various centres are undergoing further screening to ascertain the culpability of 12,110 candidates’ results.“

A total of 1,629,102 candidates applied to sit for the Paper Pencil Test (PPT), while 15,008 candidates applied for the Dual Based Test, bringing the number of candidates to 1,644,110.

“The general performance of candidates in this year’s examination shows remarkable improvement compared with last year.

“Ten candidates scored 300 marks and above, while 127,017 candidates scored between 1-159 marks.

“About 40,692 candidates’ results were invalid due to either multiple shading or no shading at all. After processing all the results, the board also discovered that about 47,974 candidates were absent.“

The registrar assured the candidates that their results could be accessed on the JAMB Website: http://www.myjambresult.com using their registration numbers.

He said about 40 centres would be screened to ascertain their culpability and warned the public against Internet fraudsters.

“Information reaching JAMB shows Internet fraudsters are already telling candidates that their results could be upgraded in one form or the other. “

This is pure deceit, the public and candidates are hereby advised to disregard these fraudsters since they do not have access to our data.

“Let me once again state that candidates are allowed to change their choices of institutions and courses once only, this change has to be effected within two weeks from today. “

Ojerinde said the Computer Based Test (CBT) is scheduled to take place from May 18 to June 1 and appealed to candidates to reprint their e-registration slips afresh to further ascertain their CBT centres.
